Curb your sugar cravings

I love chocolate.

Yup, I said it.  Hands down, chocolate-lover here.

And I am ok with that.

Part of being an intuitive eater requires us to make peace with food, listen to our bodies and eat things that we love without feelings of guilt. And me - I love chocolate. Even as a Health Coach and a Nutritionist.

So yeah. I ate chocolate on Valentine's Day.  Chocolate covered strawberries from my husband were the bomb!  I ate them all weekend and I enjoyed every bite.

It's when we allow our cravings to get the best of us, or we don't know WHY we crave certain things, that our weight or health may start to spiral.

When cravings start to get out of control, you may be.....

  • Holding onto a growing muffin top and love handles

  • Craving sugar, carbs, caffeine, and junk food ALL THE TIME.

  • Breaking out with skin blemishes

  • Feeling brain fog or unable to concentrate

  • Crashing in the late afternoon with an energy slump (and more coffee)

  • Waking up feeling tired, even after a night’s rest

  • Feeling like you’ve lost your glow

This is the moment of clarity.

This is when you may consider making a change so you can curb your cravings for good.

Jessica Kishpaugh, Holistic Nutritionist of LoYo Wellness, Wyckoff NJ, offers free, no-obligation virtual  Breakthrough Calls. Let’s explore together your cycle of sugar cravings or your weight loss goals and the consequences you are experiencing or suffering from such as fatigue, bloat, weight gain, or stomach pain.

In the meantime, here are a few tips for sugar alternatives. Choose 1-2 to implement this week!

  • Eat fruit to get a naturally sweet taste

  • Eat sweet vegetables, such as sweet potatoes, carrots and squash.

  • Eat more healthy fats, like omega 3 polyunsaturated and saturated fats - avocado, nuts, grass-fed butter, eggs. Yes healthy fats are good for you!

  • Drink seltzer or water with infused fruit, instead of soda.

  • Bake your own desserts and treats using natural sweeteners.

  • Eat your carbs later in the day, rather than first thing in the morning

  • Do a sugar detox - the less sugar you eat, the less you crave it

  • Ditch the artificial sweeteners!
