Why restricting your calories is not the key to successful weightloss

If you want to lose weight from in a healthy, holistic, sustainable way, I have one quick tip for you:

STOP RESTRICTING YOUR CALORIES.

  • Restriction leads to hunger

  • Restriction causes imbalanced hormones

  • Restrictions lead to imbalanced blood sugar

  • Restriction leads to slower metabolism → which increase in fat storage → which leads to weight gain

  • Restriction leads to false internal body signals

  • Restriction leads to increased cravings! 

  • Restriction leads to emotional eating 

  • Restriction leads to food obsession

  • Restriction leads to feelings of guilt, shame, punishment, fat bashing

  • Restriction leads to constant worry of how many calories, how many points, can I eat this, feeling low self esteem...

  • Restriction leads to increased stress hormones → which increases fat storage → which leads to weight gain.

When we diet, restrict, count calories, abide to strict food rules…. we put stress on our bodies.

Stress and weight gain are like 2 peas in a pod.  Stress and weight create a negative cycle of hormonal disruption, weight gain and a self sabotaging pattern of behavior. Food obsession and scale obsession - these are all stressful responses.

Plus, added stress of kids, work, life — believe me - I get it. I am a full time Holistic Nutritionist who runs a global online business and I have 3 small children. Life is stressful. But it’s the ability to manage your stress and balance your hormones that will give you the keys to success.

Stress fills your body with extra cortisol, which then signals the release of a hormone called insulin (aka our fat storage hormone). ⁣⁣ This is why stress causes you to pack on weight around your belly. ⁣⁣ And nothing stresses you out more than stressing out about all your stress

True - We can’t get rid of our stress overnight.

But - There are some shifts you can make to help balance your hormones in other ways so you aren't plagued with fresh new belly fat in another month or so.

When we decouple stress from the eating/drinking response, we can achieve way more than weight loss.  We can achieve Self respect. Self esteem. Freedom.
